Course Purpose

FOF 001 — Understanding Family Offices is a consumer-facing introductory course designed for family business owners, rising-generation family members, spouses, trusted advisors, Mentors, Ambassadors, church leaders, association leaders, and other prospects who want to understand what a family office is, what it is not, where the idea came from, and why family office thinking matters today.

This course is designed to serve as the educational front door to Prestige Family Office University.

It should be offered free or at a very low cost.

The purpose is not to sell aggressively.

The purpose is to educate generously.

By completing this course, a family, advisor, or prospect should understand the basic history of family offices, the difference between single-family offices, multi-family offices, outsourced family office services, and virtual family offices, the reasons traditional family office models often serve only ultra-high-net-worth families, and why PFU believes Christian families with businesses in the $5 million to $50 million net worth range also deserve serious family office education.

This course introduces PFU’s larger mission:

To educate and certify Christian families with businesses, their rising generations, and their trusted advisors in family office thinking, stewardship, leadership, succession, tax-aware planning, advisor coordination, and multigenerational impact.

Course Description

For generations, the family office has been associated with great wealth.

Some of the world’s most successful families created private offices to help manage investments, business interests, philanthropy, estate planning, taxes, household administration, governance, and multigenerational continuity. Over time, the single-family office model expanded into multi-family offices, private wealth platforms, family office networks, educational programs, and outsourced services.

Yet many families with businesses remain underserved.

A family may not have $100 million, $250 million, or $1 billion. But the family may still face serious issues: succession, advisor coordination, tax-aware exit planning, risk, rising-generation preparation, stewardship, family governance, liquidity, charitable giving, and multigenerational responsibility.

FOF 001 helps families and advisors understand that family office thinking is not merely about wealth management. It is about coordination, preparation, responsibility, stewardship, and continuity.

Prestige Family Office University brings this education to Christian families with businesses who may never build a traditional single-family office but still need the thinking, language, disciplines, and advisor coordination that family office education provides.

FOF 001 Ten-Lesson Course Outline

Lesson 1 — Welcome to Family Office Thinking

Introduces the course, explains why family office thinking matters, and clarifies that a family office is not merely an investment service. Presents the central PFU idea that many families may never build a formal family office but still need family office thinking.

Lesson 2 — The History of the Family Office

Explores the development of family offices from wealthy industrial families, including the Rockefeller model, through the growth of professional wealth administration, philanthropy, estate planning, and family governance.

Lesson 3 — What a Family Office Is

Defines the family office as a coordinated structure or process for helping a family manage wealth, business interests, advisors, risk, governance, philanthropy, administration, succession, and long-term family responsibilities.

Lesson 4 — What a Family Office Is Not

Clarifies common misunderstandings. A family office is not simply a bank, brokerage account, investment advisor, CPA firm, law firm, insurance agency, consulting firm, concierge service, or tax strategy. It may involve those disciplines, but it is broader than any one of them.

Lesson 5 — Single-Family Offices and the UHNW Model

Explains how single-family offices serve one family, why they are expensive, what services they may provide, and why they are most common among ultra-high-net-worth families.

Lesson 6 — Multi-Family Offices and Private Wealth Platforms

Explains how multi-family offices and private wealth platforms serve multiple families, why many were created, how they may offer scale, and how some may be shaped by assets under management, investment access, or institutional service models.

Lesson 7 — Virtual Family Offices and Outsourced Coordination

Explains the virtual family office model, showing how families can coordinate outside advisors and specialized professionals without creating a full in-house family office.

Lesson 8 — The Neglected Family Business Owner

Explains why many families with $5 million to $50 million in net worth may be too complex for ordinary fragmented advice but not large enough for traditional single-family office structures. Introduces PFU’s target audience and educational opportunity.

Lesson 9 — The Christian Family Office Difference

Explains why PFU serves Christian families with businesses. Introduces stewardship, biblical ownership, family calling, generosity, leadership, succession, advisor coordination, and multigenerational impact.

Lesson 10 — Is PFU the Right Next Step? Helps the learner decide whether PFU education may be useful. Introduces the Readiness Assessment, the four PFU schools, Mentors, Ambassadors, Advisors, and next steps. Includes final reflection and Certificate of Completion
